  • Terrafugia unveils design for new flying car

Terrafugia has released a new images and video for its proposed TF-X flying car concept. And by the looks of things, it's the kind of thing anyone brought up on a diet of The Jetsons has been dreaming of their whole lives. The TF-X is four-seat hybrid electric which Teffafugia claims will make flying easier than any other aircraft to come before it. Thanks to its vertical take off and landing capabilities, Terrafugia also says that the TF-X won't need a runway. That feature comes courtesy of a pair of electric motors which fold away in cruise mode. In...

  • Check out Hyundai’s cool cross-over hatch concept

This is pretty nifty. While many of the world's big car makers are launching new models at the New York International Auto Show this week, Hyundai's chosen to release a really promising concept on its home turf. It's called the Enduro and it's more than a little striking. The Korean car maker launched the three door crossover concept at the Seoul Motor Show, also taking place this week. Inspired by the world of motorbike racing, Hyundai claims the Enduro is "the perfect partner for individuals living in the modern city with energetic, athletic lifestyles". Among the new design features...

  • You won’t believe how good the Subaru BRZ STI concept looks

Check it out. Subaru has unveiled a pretty insane-looking new concept at the New York Auto Show, although it's not entirely clear to what purpose. The BRZ STI Performance Concept had many of the journalists at the show baffled before it came out from under its wraps, something which was only slightly lessened once it had been revealed. If the concept is about STI performance bits, Subaru hasn't provided any details. It could also be a new model because, as Carscoops notes, there are a few design changes including more angular lights at both the front and back. Among...

  • What happens if Google, Apple actually start building production cars?

Cars are no longer just cars. No, the humble automobile has essentially evolved into an oversized personal device. Indeed, at the Mobile World Congress last year, Ford bigwig Steven Odell uttered the following words: “Cars are the smartphones of the future”. It’s an interesting perspective. And, since reports of Apple’s apparent intention to build a vehicle of its own -- be it electric, autonomous or both -- sent the iCar rumour-mill spinning into overdrive, it couldn’t be more relevant. True to form, of course, the Cupertino giant’s lips have remained tighter than Kim K’s smallest pair of leggings. However, Google – that...

  • Kia Optima Sportspace will turn you into a wagon driver

Two words were never quite used in the same sentence before: Kia and sexy. Now that's definitely about to change. The company has unveiled its Kia Optima Sportspace ahead of its Geneva Motor Show unveiling and it could easily put German wagons of much higher calibre to styling shame. Leaked on Bobaedream.co.kr earlier today, the show car looks stunning slathered in shimmering rouge paint. The interior, although slick and minimalist to say the least, looks ridiculously uncomfortable. But, hell, it's a concept, so the exterior is all that really matters. There are more tangible details available regarding the Sportspace though. There will be...

  • Morgan says it’s got something special planned for Geneva

If you're the kind of person who prefers Tweed to hi-tech wickable running gear, you might be pleased to learn that Morgan is set to unveil something new at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. That's pretty special given that anachronistic British car maker doesn't release new models all that often (hardly surprising given its size and the hand-crafted nature of the materials it builds its cars out of). Trying to figure out exactly what Morgan will be launching is not however all that easy. The company's site reveals only the teaser image above as well as a countdown clock to...

  • Toyota provides tiniest glimpse of RND concept ahead of 26 January debut

Toyota has provided a small glimpse of a tiny portion of its mysterious RND concept ahead of its 26 January debut. The car, which Toyota says will be fast-tracked for development, will make its global debut in the UK outside the confines of a motoring show. The image appears to show the rear of the car, including round tail lights. According to the Japanese car maker, the image released today hints at how the concept’s design marks a "radical shift in direction". Right. And if you can convincingly explain how that's the case, you should probably send your...

  • Chevrolet introduces Bolt concept, says it’s serious about going electric [Gallery]

Chevrolet wants you to know that this time around it's really serious about electric vehicles. The American marque today unveiled the Bolt concept, a car which it says goes a long way toward achieving its vision for an affordable, long-range all-electric vehicle designed to offer more than 200 miles of range. The concept doesn't look all that bizarre, suggesting that there's a chance something based on it might actually be built, and is apparently designed with attainability rather than exclusivity in mind. In fact, it's a pretty refreshing take on the crossover class, with little front and rear overhang,...

  • This is Merc’s self-driving F 015 concept [Gallery]

Mercedes Benz attracted plenty of attention when it teased an egg-shaped concept last week, promising that it would be unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), currently underway in Las Vegas. What it's delivered, in the shape of the F 015, is something that looks like it's straight out of a Utopian sci-fi dream. While Google's looking to sell the world on the idea of autonomous motoring with cars that look like they come out of a toddler's play-pen, the German automaker is sticking to what it knows best: refined elegance. However interesting the F 015's profile is, that's...

  • Is Merc about to unveil an egg-shaped autonomous concept?

Mercedes Benz looks set to unveil something very interesting at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Odd-looking and egg-shaped to be sure, but interesting nonetheless. The German automaker released a teaser image of the concept vehicle on Facebook and not much else. There is however some suspicion that the concept might be an autonomous one. According to Jalopnik, that suspicion largely comes from the fact that it's been testing an autonomous concept with a very similar silhouette in recent months. Outside of Google, Merc has probably been the global leader in autonomous vehicle tech, especially in its range-leading...

  • BMW is set to embrace plug-in hybrid versions of all its core models

Two of the most celebrated "Green" cars to come out in the past couple years have worn BMW's propeller-inspired badge. By the looks of things though the i3 and i8 are just the beginning of the German marque's electric love affair. According to an official release from BMW, the auto manufacturer is planning to roll out plug-in hybrid versions of all its core models, starting with the 3 Series. BMW will unveil the new version of the 3 Series later this week, alongside a range of hybrid vehicle concepts incorporating technology already used in BMW i models. Read more:...

  • Chevrolet just unveiled a laser-propelled, 900-hp beast from Gran Turismo

Chevrolet hasn't been getting good press recently, especially since those Manchester United stars who are given free Camaros would choose Bentleys, Range Rovers and Rolls-Royces instead. But it's latest concept could do a lot to change the iconic car marque's flailing modern image. The "Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo" concept is about as futuristic as futuristic concepts get, and is one massive hat tip to Gran Turismo 6 and Chapparal cars of old. Chapparal and Chevrolet used to be partners smitten by racing, but the partnership that included forays into IndyCar didn't last as long as it should have. We've seen...

  • The next Toyota Prius will come with Le Mans racing technology

It's no easy feat, making a Prius seem exiting. The latest news from Toyota will however go a long way to remedying that. According to Autonews, the Japanese manufacturer has already been testing components for the next generation Prius in its TS040 Hybrid Le Mans racer. “Our components already have parts from the next-generation Prius”, president of Toyota Motorsport GmbH Yoshiaki Kinoshita told the motoring news site in a telephonic interview. While he was unwilling to go into details about exactly what components from the racer will go into the new Prius, although what he did reveal suggests that things aren't...
