  • Fernando Alonso to compete in Le Mans 24 Hours, WEC

McLaren F1 driver Fernando Alonso, fresh from racing at the Daytona 24 Hours, will be competing in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), including the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours. The double world champion will pull double duty then, competing in the entire 2018 Formula One season in addition to the WEC season with Toyota. Alonso will be missing the WEC race at Fuji Speedway however, as it clashes with the US Grand Prix. "Like Fernando, at McLaren we're racers at heart, and our team is built on a brave heritage of competing and succeeding in different forms of the sport," McLaren executive...

  • Watch: Porsche says goodbye to Audi in awesome tribute

As Audi takes its leave from the WEC, many of its competitors might be glad to see the dominating force depart from the series. During their time at Le Mans, Audi racked up numerous milestones. They clinched the first victory of a TSI engine back in 2001. In 2006 they snagged the first victory of a TDI engine as well as triumphing in 2012 with the first sports car to use a hybrid powertrain. During their 185 races, Audi has had 106 victories with 80 pole positions and enjoys 94 fastest laps. These are only but a few of their accomplishments. Audi...

  • WEC: Porsche takes the title in Shanghai

It's been a crazy few weeks for the World Endurance Championship (WEC), as Audi announced that it would be pulling out of the series. However, the other VW-owned team, Porsche, provided a much-needed boost after winning the manufacturer's title over the weekend. The Six Hours of Shanghai race saw the Porsche 919 Hybrid of Mark Webber, Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard take their fourth win of the season, claiming the manufacturer's title with a race to spare. The race was a dominant affair, as the number one Porsche led most of the running. The number six Toyota of Stephane Sarrazin, Mike Conway and...

  • Want to get into endurance racing? WEC now has a feeder series

Finding a path to Formula One usually means being successful in GP3 and GP2, but what if you want to join the World Endurance Championship (WEC)? The route to the championship has become a lot clearer with news that the Formula V8 3.5 open-wheel series will serve as a feeder series from 2017. The deal will see Formula V8 3.5 races taking place in support of WEC events. "The agreement includes a minimum of three overseas rounds in Mexico, Japan and Bahrain, the last being the final event of the endurance championship, in addition to three of the four European events on the WEC...

  • Watch: All the spins, crashes from 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours

It's no understatement to say that the 2016 edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours produced one of the most dramatic finishes ever seen in motorsport. The race weekend played host to more than just a heartbreaking finish though, as fans saw a few spins, hard shunts and general offs as well. Fortunately, YouTuber 'crambno29 R' did the legwork and produced a compilation of some of the best crashes, spins and hair-raising moments. Highlights include a prototype on fire (2:10), some wet weather anarchy that includes the safety car drifting (3:40), a nasty sideways impact with the tyre barrier (4:30) and a GT...

  • Le Mans: 23 hours, 57 minutes of reliability for leading Toyota

In what might just be the most dramatic finish to the Le Mans 24 Hours yet, the leading Toyota of Kazuki Nakajima, Anthony Davidson and Sebastian Buemi slowed down and came to a halt on the penultimate lap, handing the overall victory to Porsche. Nakajima reported a loss of power earlier on in the lap, eventually stopping on the start/finish straight, where the number two Porsche of Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Marc Lieb overtook it with three minutes to go. Nakajima had a 30 second gap to the Porsche before the loss of power. The radio message from Nakajima saw the Porsche...

  • 3 motorsport championships that every geek should watch

"Argh, motorsport? It's just cars going in circles." It's a response that enthusiasts almost inevitably hear when the topic is brought up. But there are tons of various motorsport disciplines out there, and while they might not be for everyone, these are the disciplines that might just convert fellow geek friends. Formula 1 It's supposed to be "the pinnacle of motorsport" but if you ignore the blatant mismanagement and heavy-handed copyright police, Formula 1 makes a good case for just that. The cars switched from 2.4-litre V8 engines to 1.6L V6 turbo Hybrid engines for the 2014 season onwards, and they're as nippy as ever. The teams...
